We wound our way around the backstreets of Bloomsbury in the sunshine and came out at Victoria House, where the scene was set for NEWGEN winner Louise Gray's blow-away catwalk show. The style set took their seats and a folksy version of Hey Big Spender wafted through the sound system as the first model stepped out.
The collection had everything! Inspired by tribal communities, photographers and artists, Gray came up with a riot of colours, shapes and textures that have already got us excited about SS11! There were hand-printed hues, exposed neon zips and clashing patterns in bleached-out neons that summer forgot.
Flirty A-lines were layered over chic, slinky maxis and see-through plastics revealed hems filled with explosions of brightly coloured card. Shop clothes tag fasteners in eye-shockingly bright colours sat betwixt sparkly embellishments and knotted fabrics. A tie-front dress separated to reveal peek-a-boo sides and a loose asymmetric jumpsuit had us gasping for more. There were straight stripes draped to give curved lines, a beautifully tailored powder blue shirt and a fine-knit slouchy jumper that we absolutely have to get our hands on! The models sported popping electric blue eye shadow and carried huge bags of sweets and popcorn, and had their ankles painted as though they were wearing little white socks. Crazy but true – this is a look we're desperate to rock!
