The boys at Meadham Kirchhoff – Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff – set the scene for their SS11 show by transforming the Topshop show space into a magical woodland brimming with pink and lilac flowers.
Packed with fashions' finest, there was a surge of excitement as the lights dimmed and haunting music filled the air! As the first model took to the catwalk looking like a princess in a candy coloured lace floor-length dress and a jewel-encrusted crown by headwear designer Nasir Mazhar, we knew we were in for sartorial treat.
The make-up in this show was absolutely amazing! Eyelashes were painted onto the model's faces, while their lips were a bright red and their cheeks rosy circles like a rag dolls. Their rainbow poker-straight hair was held back from their faces with a choker and added an eerie, childish dimension to the collection.
The darker, more sinister side of the collection got stronger as models wearing utility dresses and jackets layered over vintage looking tees with neon-lace strips and glittery leg warmers made their way down the catwalk. Customised leather jackets in gorgeous brights teamed with paper-like polka dot dresses were a scene stealer for SS11.
Citing everything from Little Red Riding Hood to My Little Pony and Harajuku girls as part of their inspiration backstage after the show, this was a romantic, yet dark collection with the perfect balance of pretty and goth. Once again, an amazingly creative collection from London’s most artistic design duo!
