Last night the Topshop girls braved the cold to take part in Centrepoint's Sleepout, joining 650 other volunteers sleeping rough in London to raise money for young homeless people. The sleepout is one of the ways Topshop is working with Centrepoint this Christmas to help out this amazing cause. Special charity charm bracelets will also be sold in stores and online, with £1 from each £2 bracelet going to the charity as well as £1 donations payable at till points 1st-31st December.
After registering at the event in Exchange Square, the girls took the chance to get to know their fellow fund raisers over giant games including Jenga, chess and dominos. After working up an appetite, they were treated to yummy stew by the RAF kitchen on site, while Cetrepoint's Louisa B and Richard Madley welcomed everyone officially. This is when the fun really began as they were treated to live music by singers Kristyna Myles, Chyna Whyne and X Factor's Rebecca Ferguson. There was also a raffle, with prizes including afternoon tea and champagne.
It is estimated that there will be 80, 000 young people out on the streets this year and that figure doesn’t even take into account the 'hidden homeless', those who are forced to couch surf, are in hostels or are in unsafe accommodation. One of the young people Centrepoint have been able to help, Iesha, spoke to the Topshop girls about how the charity has helped her turn her life around, which really brought home to them how important this cause is.
After all the fun, it was time to get some sleep and Christopher Biggins read everyone a bedtime story to help them settle down. Today the girls are feeling a bit tired from lack of sleep but everyone at Topshop is really proud of them for doing their bit for this worthwhile cause.
