The NEWGEN winners for London Fashion Week in February have just been announced and we couldn’t be more excited to be supporting another generation of design talent. 1205, Lucas Nascimento, Marques’ Almeida and Simone Rocha will all show catwalk collections this season and we can’t wait to see what they have to offer! Over the past 12 years the NEWGEN scheme has helped launch the careers of fashion heavyweights like Christopher Kane and Alexander McQueen, so if you’re looking for names to drop this season make sure it’s this lot – they’re officially London’s new cool set.
So what do you need to know about the new names on the roster? Read on to get the 411 on this talented bunch:
1. SIMONE ROCHA
Daughter to fashion designer veteran John Rocha, Simone is already fashion royalty. But this girl deserves plenty of credit in her own right – her achingly cool designs marry unsual fabrics with clean silhouettes. Think gold foil button downs or clear perspex brogues and you can see why we heart Simone.
Headed up by Paula Gerbase, 1205’s androgynous tailoring is already a hit with the style set. Her skill at creating impeccable suits is unsurprising really – after studying womenswear at Central Saint Martins, she worked in the womenswear atelier of iconic British tailor Hardy Amies, followed by five years as head designer at equally prestigious Savile Row tailor, Kilgour. That’s some pretty good work experience if you ask us!
3. LUCAS NASCIMENTO
Brazilian designer Lucas Nascimento’s innovative knitwear techniques landed him numerous slots at Brazil fashion week before he made the move to London. Ladylike and and grown-up, his textured pieces bring a new sophistication to knitwear.
4. MARQUES’ ALMEIDA
Fashion school pals Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida first caught our attention with their signature distressed denim tees. Soon after, Fashion Week was full of fash editors working their raw, unhinged look on the FROW.
Other winners of NEWGEN support include Ryan Lo – the self taught Hong Kong native known for his pink frocks, Claire Barrow– London’s coolest customiser and Danielle Romeril – a designer putting the punk into basics. All three will show presentations or exhibitions at LFW this season.
So congrats to all the winners, we can’t wait to see your collections come February!
